Kids' understanding of psychological functioning and their own mental health

In this video, we review a comprehensive study looking at the link between young people's understanding of psychological functioning and their actual mental health. The main concepts used in the study are those of Dr. Carol Dweck. You can learn more about her and her very useful and important work here. She also has a TED talk, which you can access here .

Relationships between reactions to parent conflict and kids' own struggles

This meta-analysis demonstrates that thoughts about (moreso than feelings, behaviors, or physiological reactions to) parents fighting predict children's psychological problems, and that internalizing problems (sadness, anxiety, low self-esteem) are more closely related to their ways of coping with parental conflict than are externalizing problems (acting out, etc.).
